How I learned to overrule my brain! #5SecondRule

Guys, I have been trialling something in my own life over the past few weeks and have been dying to share it with you!

 

Simply put, I have discovered Mel Robbins and her #5SecondRule and have found it to be LIFE-CHANGING, especially regarding my winter workouts.

 

Mel Robbins came up with this surprising strategy when she was at an all-time low in her life – lacking motivation, self-confidence and the drive to get anything done. Instead, she procrastinated, made excuses and talked herself out of doing anything that would benefit her life. Everything was just HARD.

 

And then she had the random thought – what would happen if she tried to launch out of bed when the alarm first went off, by pretending she was a rocket ship? (Stay with me, I am not kidding!) She began counting down from 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and before she knew it, she was standing next to her bed. She’d done it!

 

She then started applying it to other areas of her life – in order to do the things she KNEW she needed to do to become her BEST SELF – things that she had always procrastinated. She simply drowned out her own excuses by counting down from 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 – and taking action.

 

Her life changed.

 

She began getting stuff done – not giving into her fears or feelings or lack of willpower – but instead taking action. Plus, she is now a sought-after speaker with her no-nonsense approach to life and business. And it all began with the #5SecondRule.

 

I can’t lie – initially I was both curious AND sceptical. But I gave it a try – on a day when I was tired and grumpy and craving some TV time on my couch. I counted down from 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and stood up and got changed for Boot Camp. It worked! The next day, I handled my toughest and scariest deadline first – I simply counted down and got stuck in.

 

Guys – do yourself a favour and road test it this week. Start counting down before the things that you would rather avoid or procrastinate, and see what happens!
