EDENVALE (Holy Rosary School)

Adriaan Mostert

Adriaan is not just passionate about exercise; he also thrives on seeing the joy others get from the hard work they put in to helping themselves. Growing up in Namibia and Pretoria, he loved athletics and rugby but was first inspired to start a career in fitness when he met his wife and fell in love. She was already in the fitness arena and loved sports just as much as he did. Adriaan decided the corporate world was not for him and so followed his passion to become a personal trainer. He applied to work at the Virgin Active but soon found himself craving the fresh air and freedom of training outdoors, so joining ABC was the natural progression. His tip for handling stress is to have a great workout and most importantly to plan and prioritise often. His secret weapon when it comes to getting fit and staying fit is to be constant in what you do. Adriaan says: “Don’t start something you won’t be able to do for the rest of your life. Quick fixes always end up being the long route. If you live healthy the weight loss will follow by itself. Getting fit means one thing - run! Exercise daily, eat balanced meals, get enough rest and try not to stress about the small stuff.”

SOWETO (UJ Soweto Campus)

Amanda van der Westhuizen

Amanda is married and has two grown up kids, Jean and Chanel. She admits to having ‘empty nest’ syndrome and is now dedicating her time to inspiring others to be the best they can be through exercise. As an ABC trainer she sees the opportunity to impart her knowledge and skills to others who are passionate about improving their lifestyle and body. When she’s not at ABC she’ll more than likely be training outdoors herself, cycling or playing beach volleyball. One of her most memorable travel experiences was to Spain in 1998; after losing all her baby weight, she competed in the Miss Universe Body Building Competition and achieved a second place in her division as well as second in the couple event. Her advice for women who want to lose weight and get fit is to adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes a nutritional eating plan and a regular exercise routine. Regular exercise must become a way of life and it’s important that you enjoy the exercise you are doing.

As part of her degree, she did her Personal Training diploma and she has been a Personal Trainer since 2003. She has gained invaluable experience, working with all kinds of different people ranging from 5 to 75 years old and she has learnt a lot about herself in the process too. Growing up in Polokwane, she loves the bushveld and the Blue Bulls!
