Huenu Solsona

Director

Huenu (pronounced Whe-noo) has been involved in sports since the age of 3 when she joined the local snow ski school in her birth town of Esquel in the Patagonia of Argentina. By the tender age of 10, she took home the title of National Snow Ski Champion and continued to ski and snowboard for the rest of her life. Her family emigrated to South Africa in 1990 and she was soon South African Snow Ski Champion (there is snow somewhere in this country!), Northern Transvaal Volleyball Captain and Western Province Volleyball member. Her sports involvements were quite varied… from volleyball, gymnastics, softball, hockey and tennis to rock-climbing, bungy jumping and sky-diving! Huenu lived in Canada where she got her qualifications through NESTA as a Personal Trainer, Core Conditioning Specialist and Fitness Boot Camp Instructor. She brought the fitness boot camp concept to South Africa when she returned to Cape Town in 2005. For Huenu, “living each day like it was your last” is a motto she has always strived to live by. She believes in making each day count and putting your plans into action… today! Her true concern for the mental and physical wellbeing of others are what drive her actions and goals for ABC.

Mona Whittaker

Bookkeeper / PA to Huenu Solsona

Mona is officially the ‘mother hen’ at the ABC office with more than 35 years of working experience she has seen, done and heard it all. There is no situation she can’t handle and applies her daily mantra, “live every day as if it’s your last and let no opportunity to better yourself pass you by”, to every aspect of her life. She is totally dedicated to her work and will always help where she can. Her greatest passions are her grandchildren, husband and children. Mona also loves attending boot camp, which has made a huge difference in her life, especially to her mental and physical well being. So much so that she’s become our very own brand ambassador at braais, kiddies birthday parties and more, spreading the word about ABC. Outside of work, she loves painting, beading and cooking.

Jackie Alexander

Cape Town Camp Manager

Jackie is ABC's best-kept secret! There is nothing Jackie doesn’t know about ABC. Not only is she always smiling but she is quick to sort out any campers queries. Jackie fell in love with the Adventure Boot Camp concept immediately when joining as a boot camper herself at the WP Cricket Club in November 2006. At the time, Jackie was a stay-at-home mom and it was her love for the outdoors that inspired her to take up the position at ABC. Far from her previous career in the insurance industry that spanned 12 years, Jackie’s kind and loving nature and great sense of humor is what makes working with her such a great pleasure. Her role includes taking care of all the administrative tasks related to ABC’s Cape Town camps including registrations, web enquiries and phone calls.

Amelia Olivier

National Camp Manager (excluding Gauteng)

Amelia is a delight to have in the office and it’s her passion for helping women better their appearance, health and overall wellbeing that keeps her inspired to continue the great work that she does every day. She deals with ABC campers on a daily basis and ensures that their registrations and enquiries are all attended to promptly and efficiently. She studied Small Business Management at Boland College and Cosmetology at the Isa Carsten’s Health and Skin Care Institute. Amelia gained much experience in exercise science and beauty knowledge while working at the Spa at the Cape Grace Hotel and during her two years in the UK. On her return to South Africa she opened a mobile Health and Skin Care Clinic working with a wide variety of clientele in the Cape Winelands. This is what she was doing for the four years before a work-related wrist injury left her looking for other ways to inspire women to live a life of health and happiness. She loves to be around people and in her spare time taking part in mostly outdoor activities like hiking and sailing or the odd game of tennis. She also enjoys sketching and pottery.

Clair McLaughlin

Gauteng Camp Manager

Clair joined ABC in July 2009 after spending four years at home as a full-time mom. Before entering into motherhood, she was previously employed by a company in the retail planning sector in London where she worked for seven years. Clair’s strong organizational skills and excellent telephone manner coupled with her passion for health and fitness is what brings her to ABC. She is very excited to be working for a company that is dedicated to helping women become healthier, happier and more confident.

Laura Hall

Gauteng Camp Manager

Laura joined ABC in October 2009, making her the youngest member of the ABC family. Telling from the big smile she has on her face every day at work, we know she is very happy to be here! For Laura, the best part of belonging to the ABC family is knowing she is a part of an organisation that is instrumental in improving the lives of so many women, bringing about many positive mental and physical changes. Laura is a single mother, which she believes has given her the edge to face life’s challenges head on. Some of her biggest life lessons have been learnt parenting her son. As a single mom, you need to be super organised and meticulous and always have a positive attitude no matter what. These are skills Laura applies at ABC along with her excellent telephone manner. Outside of working hours, Laura loves to write, read and hang out with her family.

Danica Bloomberg

Marketing Manager

Danica (pronounced Da-Knee-Ca) joined the ABC family in the middle of 2009 and yes, she is also an avid boot camper herself. Danica is our marketing manager and comes highly recommended after working as an account and project manager in the world of advertising. Joining ABC was like joining a really big family and has inspired her to change the way she thinks about exercise. She is very excited about promoting the brand and is constantly thinking of clever ways to reach women all over South Africa every single day. Her CV is filled with other exciting endeavours including running her own events company, working at an art gallery and doing photography part-time. Besides spending her days strategising for Adventure Boot Camp, she thrives on learning new skills and growing her knowledge, living her life to the fullest, never missing an opportunity. She is passionate about all things creative and loves travelling, having lived in over six countries. When she is not attending the St. Cyprians boot camp she is running up Lions Head.

Michelle Matthee

Franchise Co-ordinator

Michelle is a dynamic and outgoing person who loves meeting new people. She comes from a diverse industry background and she has always focused on helping others find the best within themselves. Michelle is a wife and mother who strives to be positive in all areas of her life. Her greatest achievements are the work she has done with children's community projects and where she assists individuals in their recovery from addiction. Being able to inspire women seeking a balance in their lives through exercise completes the circle and is a dream come true. In her spare time, Michelle loves being creative, writing poetry and scrapbooking her favourite memories. Her motto for life is to live openly and honestly, one day at a time.

Donna Davids

Junior Events & Projects Manager

Donna joined ABC in September 2009 as Junior Events & Projects Manager. She considers herself a ‘supermom’ having two children under the age of four and having worked full time within the advertising and marketing arena at the same time. Donna enjoys all forms of the arts, particularly musical theatre and has also been involved in youth community work for the past seven years, striving to better the world one person at time. It’s this passion that inspired her to apply for the position at ABC. In her role as junior events and project manager, Donna is now able to provide a platform to help women all over South Africa rediscover their purpose, to let each be their own director and leading actor, and as they undertake the Adventure Boot Camp challenge, they will say: ‘curtain please, for my first performance in the adventure of everyday life’. Donna believes the word ‘Adventure’ implies a wild and exciting undertaking, taking risks in the hope of a favourable outcome. With Christ as her source and her husband her rock, we welcome Donna to the ABC family.

Gwen Villet

Public Relations Consultant

Gwen joined ABC in April 2009. Her role as Public Relations Consultant is to see that all Adventure Boot Camp’s fantastic marketing initiatives are recognized by the media to help further expose the ABC brand. She has an extensive background in both agency and corporate PR with her most recent position as PR Executive of Men’s Health, Shape, Fit Pregnancy and Best Life magazines. As soon as Gwen left school, nothing could hold her back from the big wide world. She spent a year working in Holland as an au-pair and travelled extensively across Europe throughout her stay before returning to South Africa to apply for her second international job which sent her to Vancouver, Canada. Here she joined a cruise liner and sailed for eight months between Alaska and the Caribbean. After achieving her degree in English at Unisa, she continued her travels, spending six months sailing on yachts in the Mediterranean. Now with her feet planted firmly in Cape Town soil, about to marry the man of her dreams, Gwen finds inspiration in surfing, mountain biking, trail running, writing and camping.

Ashley Anthony

Office Manager

Ashley Anthony is a self-motivated go-getter who joined the ABC team in 2010. His excellent organizational skills coupled with his friendly nature and witty sense of humour (not to mention his fabulous work experience) makes him a pleasure to have in the office. He is super motivated and maintains a firm grasp on ABC’s administrative function, both in and outside the office. He handles errands, organizes the office, sorts promotional items and ensures campers get their surprise goodies every month. In short, he is the glue that keeps our team together. In his spare time, Ashley likes to keep up to date with all the latest music and when a popular song plays on the radio, his feet can’t seem to stop moving. He also loves softball and has been playing from the age of 14, making the Western Province squad numerous times! What he wishes for the most is that someday he’ll be good enough to play for South Africa.

Thandi Bikitshe

Office Assistant

Thandi is a Godsend and is always there when we need her. She works part time at ABC helping with various tasks that are needed around the office but really lifts our load when we’re getting ready for a new camp to start and assists us with goodie bags, promo itmes, errands, stapling, etc. Thandi has been with ABC for many years and we have yet to see her in a bad mood. She is friendly and always helpful and we simply love having her around.
